What is Cantilever Racking Used for?

Cantilever racking is used for items which are long in nature such as lengths of wood or pipework. Cantilever racking is used to store long length and heavy duty items such as timber, piping, panel products or PVCu extrusions.

Products are stored horizontally so they can be easily loaded and unloaded.

Cantilever racking is available in both single and double-sided configurations. Double-sided racking can be installed back to back to create aisles. Single-sided racking can be placed against a wall.

Cantilever racking can be used externally as long as it’s galvanised to protect it from the elements. A canopy can be used to add further protection to the products being stored. For cantilever racking used internally a powder coating can be applied. The colour can match the business corporate colours to keep branding consistent.

The main components of cantilever racking are the columns, base, arms and brace frames.

  • Columns – Vertical Columns support the arms
  • Base – The Columns are bolted into the base and provide support for the weight being loaded.
  • Arms – The load is supported by the arms and different levels can be used depending on load requirements.
  • Braces – To create a stronger, more rigid structure braces are used to support the columns.

Cantilever racking provides a safe solution for storing long length items. It can be applied to various sectors including Builders Merchant and Kitchen, Bedroom and Bathroom Industries, to store timber, worktops, sheet materials and laminates to maximise warehouse space.
